Women’s Mountaineering Milestone: Indian Tricolor Hoisted at Rudragaira

Perva Dhawan’s recent ascent of Rudragaira marks a significant milestone for Indian women in extreme sports. After a meeting with CM Yogi Adityanath, Dhawan received the ‘Beti Bachao‑Beti Padhao’ banner and set out with a small, well‑trained team.

The journey involved a two‑day trek to the base camp at 4,350 metres, followed by a grueling eight‑hour climb through ice‑covered cliffs and exposed sections. The team overcame altitude sickness, extreme cold and logistical hurdles before Dhawan planted the national flag at 12:30 p.m. on September 12.

Beyond the climb, Dhawan advocates for clean‑mountain initiatives, promoting the ‘Peaks and Plastic’ campaign to keep Himalayan trails free of waste.
