Seven Women Struck on Saswad‑Jejuri Road: Three Fatalities, Four Critical Injuries

Monday’s grim episode on Pune’s Saswad‑Jejuri corridor saw a commercial truck ram into a gathering of seven women, resulting in three immediate deaths and four severe injuries. The accident took place roughly 500 metres from the Belsar toll plaza, directly opposite Shipdeep Lodging.

All the victims originated from Digraj, a settlement in Sangli district, and belong to the Warri community. The truck, registered to Rangnath Maharaj Pokharbiskir Dindi of Lohara in Nanded district, is alleged to have veered into the women’s path, crushing them beneath its load.

Emergency medical teams responded promptly, stabilising the injured and transporting them to the nearest hospital. The three women who perished were identified by local officials.

Later the same day, Mumbai’s historic Fort area reported a minor incident when a Mercedes automobile collided with a school van near Fashion Street. Police quickly restored order; no casualties were reported.

Earlier in the month, a construction mishap in Pimpri‑Chinchwad’s Moshi zone, close to a waste‑to‑energy project, caused a three‑storey building under construction to collapse. Multiple agencies – fire services, NDRF, army and police – launched a coordinated rescue mission, extracting ten survivors and locating one deceased individual.

Authorities have urged stricter compliance with traffic safety measures and construction oversight to prevent such tragedies in the future.
