Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Monday offered a detailed explanation for his visit to a private hospital in Coimbatore. The senior DMK leader said an unusually heavy workload had prevented him from completing his regular medical screenings for the past eight months. At the airport, he told journalists that the visit was strictly preventive. He had simply used the opportunity to finish every delayed test in one sitting. Medical staff completed the full battery of examinations while he remained at the facility, and results showed no cause for concern. When asked why he did not use a government hospital, Sengottaiyan pointed out that the private institution is run by his family members. He has received free treatment there for years and considers it his default medical provider. The minister stressed that convenience and long-standing family ties, not any special privilege, guided his choice. He added that he would return to Chennai immediately to resume official duties. He also briefly addressed the status of a high-profile murder investigation and said future welfare decisions would depend on the government’s financial assessment.
