Why Siddhabali Dham Is Revered as a Siddha Site in Garhwal

In the heart of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region, Siddhabali Dham holds a special place as a Siddha pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Unlike many temples that display sculpted images, this shrine honors the deity through a simple pindi, a stone that embodies his divine presence.

The location is surrounded by dense deodar forests and clear mountain springs, offering a natural retreat that intensifies the spiritual atmosphere. The site recently received a shout‑out from the state’s chief minister, who posted a short video on X, urging devotees to visit the “sacred centre of Hanuman’s boundless grace.” He emphasized the uplifting energy that pervades the area, encouraging travelers to incorporate the visit into their itinerary when touring Garhwal.

Two main legends underline the temple’s sanctity. The first tells of a hermit who performed prolonged penance on the hill and was granted a glimpse of Hanuman, after which the pindi was consecrated, resulting in the name Siddhabali. The second recounts a dramatic clash between the sage Guru Gorkhanath’s guide, Matsyendra Nath, and a shape‑changing Hanuman, ending in a respectful exchange and a promise that the guru would remain at the spot forever.

Both stories reinforce the belief that Guru Gorkhanath achieved spiritual attainment at Siddhabali Dham, a claim that bolsters the site’s reputation as a place of siddhi (spiritual power). While locals estimate the shrine’s foundation at roughly four centuries ago, historians have yet to locate documentary proof. Nonetheless, the blend of myth, reverence, and pristine environment continues to attract devotees from across India.
