On September 3rd, in California, USA, an Indian engineer from Telangana was fatally shot. The father of the deceased reported receiving the news of his son’s death on Thursday. According to initial reports, a minor dispute arose between Nizamuddin and his roommate on September 3rd, concerning the air conditioning. The disagreement escalated, leading to a police shooting that resulted in his death.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Nizamuddin, who was working in Santa Clara, California. His father, Mohammad Hasanuddin, has appealed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting assistance in repatriating his son’s body.
Mohammad Hasanuddin wrote to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, stating, ‘This morning I learned that my son was shot by the Santa Clara police and his body is in a hospital in Santa Clara. I do not know why the police shot him.’ Hasanuddin requested that Jaishankar direct the Indian embassy there to assist in bringing his son’s body back to Mahbubnagar.
The father shared that his son’s friend informed him that a minor argument had broken out between Nizamuddin and his roommate. The dispute intensified, eventually involving knives. Relatives stated that when the police entered the room, they instructed both individuals to show their hands. One complied, but the other did not, which led to the police firing four rounds and shooting Nizamuddin. They expressed deep regret that the police had opened fire without proper investigation.
In a statement, the police reported finding Mohammad Nizamuddin inside his home with a knife, holding his roommate. They stated that upon arrival at the scene, SCPD officers were also involved in an encounter with Nizamuddin, during which he was shot. Nizamuddin and his roommate were transported to a hospital, where Nizamuddin was later pronounced dead, while his roommate is receiving treatment.
