Weekly review leads to new fuel export duties effective Oct 16

The Finance Ministry conducts a fortnightly assessment of export duties on petroleum products. Based on the latest review, the revised rates for petrol and diesel took effect on 16 October.

The timing coincides with heightened volatility in international crude oil prices, driven by geopolitical tensions and supply uncertainties.

In August, the government had raised petrol export tax to ₹3.5 per litre and diesel duties to ₹25.5 per litre, while the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) levy also increased. The current adjustments represent a partial rollback for diesel and a further increase for petrol.

These steps illustrate the ministry's flexible approach to balancing revenue collection with the need to support India's refining sector.
