Wanted Criminal Gautam Dahi Injured in Gunfight, Handed Over to Hospital

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district reported a violent confrontation on Monday night that resulted in the capture of a wanted criminal, Gautam Dahi. The suspect, who had a 25,000 rupee bounty on his head for a July 5 homicide, fired on officers after being ordered to halt near the Simbhalkha underpass.

The chase led the biker onto the Chakarod road, where his motorcycle slipped, forcing him to the ground. Undeterred, he fired again with a tamping weapon. Officers, acting in self‑defence, returned fire and struck Dahi’s right leg.

Dahi was immediately taken into custody, provided medical assistance, and admitted to a nearby hospital. Police seized a 315‑mm tamping device, two khokha cartridges, two standard cartridges, and an unregistered Passion motorcycle during the operation.

The police record shows Dahi is linked to 13 cases across various police stations, including murder, attempted murder, assault, and violations of arms and gangster legislation dating back to 2009.
