The second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is set to commence across 12 States and Union Territories, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. A crucial step in this process is the freezing of voter lists at midnight tonight, ensuring the accuracy of electoral rolls. Following this, voters will receive unique enumeration forms detailing their information. The SIR initiative is designed to guarantee that every eligible citizen is registered and to purge any ineligible names from the voter database. This comprehensive re-verification exercise, distinct from standard updates, aims to create entirely new voter lists. Particular attention will be paid to verifying the place of birth to identify and remove any foreign nationals who are not eligible to vote, a measure that gains significance amid ongoing efforts to address undocumented immigration.
