Volunteer Corps Brings Food and Water to Flood‑Stricken Lucknow Areas

In response to the recent flooding of the Gomti River, volunteer cadres from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Sevabharti have mobilised a dedicated relief campaign in Lucknow’s Faizullaganj region. The operation, now in its sixth day, focuses on delivering meals, clean water, and everyday essentials to households cut off by rising water levels.

Boats serve as the primary mode of transport, allowing teams to reach colonies such as Daud Nagar, Mama Colony, and Yadav Chowra, where road access is blocked. To date, the volunteers have handed out over 10,000 food packets and 30,000 bottles of drinking water, alongside items like salted biscuits, lentils, chickpeas, mosquito coils, and matches.

A workforce of 65 volunteers operates in two 12‑hour shifts, ensuring that aid distribution occurs both in the early morning and later afternoon. According to the latest data, about 80 % of the flood‑impacted zones have been covered, with roughly 40,000 families identified as needing assistance.

While approximately 25,000 families have migrated to safer locations, the remaining 15,000 households continue to rely on the daily supply chain established by the volunteers. Senior RSS and Sevabharti officials visited the distribution sites to verify the effectiveness of the operation and to interact directly with affected families.

The volunteers remain committed to maintaining a reliable flow of food, water, and essential items until the floodwaters recede and normalcy returns to the region.
