Violent Family Argument Leads to Matricide in Pune's Vishrantwadi

A domestic clash in Vishrantwadi, Pune, culminated in a shocking matricide on August 30. According to police, 32‑year‑old Sagar Haribhakt demanded cash from his 50‑year‑old mother, Savita Haribhakt, to purchase liquor. The request sparked a heated exchange that spiraled into violence.

Investigators say Sagar seized a knife and inflicted a fatal neck wound on his mother, causing her immediate death. The incident was reported to Vishrantwadi police station, where officers recorded the case under Section 103(1) of the Indian Penal Code.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Panhale confirmed the arrest of the son and highlighted that the perpetrator may be grappling with underlying psychological issues. The probe continues to determine the exact motives and any mitigating factors.

The murder follows another distressing event in the state, where a teenage student in Jalgaon reportedly ended his life after losing money in an online game on a festive day.
