Maharashtra's Vidarbha leads Kharif sowing, Konkan lags behind
State authorities report that Vidarbha’s Amravati subdivision is at the forefront of Kharif operations, with 81 % of its cultivated acreage already sown. The next highest percentages are recorded in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (65 %), Latur (63 %), Nashik (56 %) and Nagpur (53 %).
Conversely, the Konkan zone suffered from uneven early‑season rainfall, which caused many rice seedlings planted in June to dry out. The revival of monsoon showers in July compelled farmers to restart planting from nurseries, delaying full‑field establishment.
Agriculture officials warn that the Konkan figures will stay low until the replanted seedlings grow sufficiently for transplanting. They anticipate a surge in planting activity during the second half of July once the coastal districts receive a steadier flow of rain.
