In a momentous occasion for Jammu and Kashmir, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday for a two-day official tour, his inaugural visit to the region post-appointment. The special Boeing aircraft carrying the dignitary landed smoothly at Srinagar International Airport, setting the stage for a series of key engagements.
The airport tarmac became a hub of protocol as Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the 15 Corps GOC, and DGP welcomed him with full honors. Escorted by an elaborate security cavalcade, the Vice President made his way to Raj Bhavan, Chashma Shahi, under an impenetrable security blanket.
Thursday’s highlight features the Vice President as chief guest at the University of Kashmir’s 21st convocation in Hazratbal. This prestigious event, overseen by the LG as Chancellor and CM as Pro-Chancellor, symbolizes academic excellence and governmental commitment to education in the valley.
Pre-arrival preparations included stringent security protocols: exhaustive route checks, mock drills, and deployment of additional checkpoints across Srinagar. Pedestrians and vehicles faced thorough scrutiny to safeguard the visit.
A detailed traffic diversion plan was rolled out to minimize disruptions. No traffic allowed from Badayari Chowk-Gupkar to Nishat-Shalimar-Harwan. Ram Munshibagh-Grand Palace route closed; use Dal Gate-Sangramal-Ikhwan diversions. Time-bound restrictions on Dal Gate, Khayyam, Khanayar, Rainawari, Said Kadal, Hazratbal. Suggested alternates: Burzahama-Chandpora-Tailbal-Zakura-Malbagh-Illahibagh-90 Feet Road for various corridors. Pathachowk-Pandrithan traffic rerouted via Peaks Naugam bypass.
Emphasizing public convenience, authorities promised swift passage for ambulances after checks, with helplines for traffic queries. Radhakrishnan’s visit not only boosts morale but also reinforces the center’s engagement with J&K’s development narrative.
