Veteran IAS Officer Rakesh Mehta Found Dead at Noida Residence

Rakesh Mehta, a former chief secretary of Delhi and a 1975 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, was discovered dead at his Noida house on September 6. A suicide note indicated that chronic health concerns and mental‑health issues drove him to the fatal decision. Mehta’s career spanned more than three decades, during which he served under former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, led the Delhi Municipal Corporation as commissioner, and later steered the city’s administration as chief secretary from 2007 to 2010. He was instrumental in planning and executing large‑scale transport, power and infrastructure projects, notably those required for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Police have ruled the case a suicide and are completing the necessary paperwork.
