Kerala’s political temperature soared as Opposition Leader VD Satheesan unleashed a blistering critique of Health Minister Veena George, declaring her the butt of jokes statewide after her party allegedly peddled a phony assault tale.
During a media interaction in Adoor on Friday, Satheesan quipped that George’s name alone triggers chuckles among citizens. He accused CPI(M) of orchestrating a massive misinformation campaign, falsely stating the minister suffered injuries in a KSU demonstration at Kannur railway station mid-week, sparking riots province-wide.
The fallout included a bomb hurled at a KSU leader’s residence and sham murder attempt cases filed to incarcerate activists. Currently, five KSU members languish in jail over accusations of protesting George’s arrival at the platform with black flags.
Satheesan laid bare the lies from George, Speaker AN Shamseer, CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and CPI(M)’s MV Govindan regarding the episode. The invoked ‘attack’ was pure invention to justify turmoil, he maintained.
On his side, campaign posters were torched in Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and the capital, injuring innocents and bombing dwellings. He rubbished allegations of KSU youth manhandling George’s dupatta and arm as groundless ploys for unrest.
Labeling the saga a smokescreen for healthcare shortcomings, Satheesan noted the medical report omitted any assault wounds. Surgery buzz aside, no admission was needed—exposing the theatrics to all, including press and rail authorities.
He called for dropping charges against KSU cadre and prosecuting Govindan for fomenting disorder. The UDF will battle on dual fronts, he affirmed, pressing CPI(M) to cease hostilities at once.
