Vaishali Incident: ASI’s Illegal Discharge Leads to Police Probe

Authorities in Vaishali district are probing a shooting incident involving an Assistant Sub‑Inspector who discharged his service pistol on a civilian. The event took place in Bampur village on the morning of July 13, after the officer, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, asked for assistance to free a supposedly stuck vehicle.

When the help was provided, the officer’s behaviour turned abusive, culminating in a violent encounter where he seized the neck of Rajnish, a soldier, and fired a round that passed near his left eye. Residents subdued the officer and recovered the firearm, which has been secured as evidence.

The firearm belongs to Deepak Kumar, an ASI posted at the Farbisganj research unit. A forensic team has collected the bullet and cartridge, and the FIR is under preparation. Police officials have confirmed that the gun is a legitimate service weapon, not illegal, and that the investigation will proceed according to law.
