Utthan Camp Transforms Learning for Mumbai Schoolchildren

In a unique effort to make education more meaningful, Adani Electricity and the Adani Foundation organized a summer learning camp called Utthan for BMC school students in Mumbai. The program integrated real-life business experiences with classroom concepts to support the goals of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Nipun Bharat Mission. Over several days, students participated in activities that connected academic lessons to practical skills. One session turned children into junior journalists, teaching them how to read newspapers, identify numbers and dates, create headlines, and write brief reports. Another set of exercises focused on measurement and market transactions, where students practiced weighing items and conducting mock sales. Throughout the camp, participants met skilled workers including carpenters, electricians, tailors, and nurses, gaining insight into how these professions use reading, math, and problem-solving every day. The camp also included creative sessions on storytelling, poster design, and public speaking to build literacy and confidence. Principals noted that students showed greater enthusiasm for learning and developed respect for various occupations. Parents observed their children applying new skills at home, such as reading newspapers and understanding measurements while shopping. The initiative concluded with activities designed to strengthen teamwork, logical thinking, and a sense of social responsibility, leaving a lasting impact on the young learners.
