Uttar Pradesh Triples Medical Seats and Doubles Nursing Colleges Since 2017

Since the BJP government took office in 2017, the number of medical colleges in the state has risen from 41 to 85, complemented by two new AIIMS. MBBS seats have jumped from 4,690 to more than 13,600, while postgraduate seats increased from 3,564 to 5,067. Nursing colleges have expanded from two to 26 operational institutions, with 33 under construction. Faculty numbers in government medical colleges grew from 1,227 to 3,438. Yogi criticised the previous administration for delaying approved projects, noting that land for Gorakhpur AIIMS was only released after 2017, enabling the hospital to become fully functional.
