Uttar Pradesh Orders Flood Control Centers Across 18 Divisions by May 31

As monsoon clouds gather, Uttar Pradesh's Irrigation and Water Resources Department is racing against time. A key mandate requires setting up unified flood control operations in every one of the state's 18 divisions no later than May 31, ensuring seamless activation from the first of June. Progress has been swift: 4,000 kilometers of river embankments now stand reinforced. Anti-erosion initiatives, including 300 ongoing projects, aim to protect agrarian lands and hamlets by mid-June. Engineers are layering stone revetments and geo-synthetic bags to fortify banks at high-risk locations. To combat urban inundation and rural water stagnation, drainage networks are undergoing intensive desilting. More than 16,000 kilometers have been cleared ahead of schedule, with final sweeps targeting flash flood hotspots before rains arrive. This preparation will channel excess water away, preserving harvests and communities. From Prayagraj to Gorakhpur, these control rooms will run round-the-clock through the flood season, from June 15 to October 15. Real-time hydrology data will drive instant countermeasures. Complementing this, community-level flood vigilance groups are mobilizing, integrating officials and villagers for early warnings and on-site aid. Uttar Pradesh's all-out flood defense strategy underscores a commitment to resilience, potentially averting widespread damage in the coming season.
