Uttar Pradesh Loan Subsidy Scam: CBI Captures Corrupt Postal Employee

In a coordinated operation on August 8, the Central Bureau of Investigation targeted a corruption network involving a postal worker in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.

The suspect, serving as an assistant at the Bighapur Post Office, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a local entrepreneur who had taken a Rs 10 lakh loan under the PMEGP scheme. The loan was meant to receive a subsidy of Rs 3,49,500 from the state bank.

The grievance filed on Friday alleged that the officer would only confirm the subsidy eligibility after receiving cash. When the complainant attempted to pay, the officer took Rs 25,000, an exchange captured by CBI surveillance.

The CBI intervened, confiscated the cash and arrested the officer. He will be presented before a Lucknow court for further judicial action.

The episode raises alarm over the misuse of postal channels to facilitate financial fraud and calls for reinforced mechanisms to protect subsidy disbursement processes.
