Urban Bodies in Uttar Pradesh to Strengthen Finances Through OTS

Lucknow, 10 August — In a bid to make municipal institutions more autonomous and financially robust, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a one‑time settlement (OTS) framework for overdue property‑related taxes.

The scheme covers all 762 urban entities – 17 municipal corporations, 200 municipal councils and 545 town panchayats – and seeks to clear outstanding house tax, water tax and sewerage tax liabilities.

Implementation will run from 15 August to 15 December 2026. During the first month, municipal officials must disseminate clear guidelines and launch a comprehensive awareness campaign so that debtors understand the payment schedule.

Taxpayers may settle the total amount in three stages: an initial payment of one‑third within 30 days of the scheme’s start, followed by two equal installments over the next two months. Full compliance is required within the three‑month window.

Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma affirmed that the recovered revenue will be channelled into essential civic projects, ranging from road expansion and drainage upgrades to water supply, sanitation and street illumination, thereby improving the quality of life for city dwellers.
