UPSC Announces Recruitment for Geologists, Chemists and Hydrogeology Scientists

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued a recruitment notification for 122 scientific posts in the Indian Geological Survey and the Central Ground Water Board.

In the Geological Survey, 111 positions are open: 29 Group‑A Geologists, 7 Group‑A Chemists, 34 Group‑B Assistant Geologists, 35 Group‑B Assistant Geophysicists and 6 Group‑B Assistant Chemists. The Central Ground Water Board lists 16 vacancies, including Scientist‑B (Hydrology) Group‑A (5), Scientist‑B (Chemical) Group‑A (1), Scientist‑B (Geophysics) Group‑A (1), Assistant Hydrogeologists Group‑B (7), Assistant Chemist Group‑B (1) and Assistant Geophysicist Group‑B (1).

Eligibility requires a master's or M.Sc. degree in the relevant discipline from an accredited institution. The age limit is set between 21 and 32 years as of 1‑Jan‑2026, with category‑based relaxations.

Selection will be based on three components: a preliminary objective‑type exam, a descriptive mains exam, and a personal interview. The preliminary stage is scheduled for 10 January 2027, while the mains will be conducted on 19‑20 June 2027.

The application fee is Rs 200 for General, OBC and EWS candidates, whereas women, SC/ST and PwBD candidates are exempted. Prospective candidates should register on the UPSC portal and complete the process before 6 pm on 22 September 2026.
