UP Speeds Up Land Consolidation and Court Case Resolution
The Uttar Pradesh government is working to make land consolidation faster, fairer and more organised. Official data from the Chakbandi Directorate highlights growth in completed consolidation projects, case resolution and the computerisation of courts over recent years.
In 2017, consolidation was completed in 1,925 villages across the state. The number rose to 3,192 villages by 2025, reflecting a substantial increase in completed work. Once consolidation is finished, the records are handed back to the respective tehsils, which supports better management of land documents and farmer-related revenue matters.
Resolution of cases in chakbandi courts has also gathered pace. More than 12.55 lakh cases were disposed of in 2017. By 2025, the number had surpassed 21.12 lakh. According to the directorate, a total of 21,12,784 cases were disposed of over the past eight years, a milestone in the effort to settle land disputes.
To link consolidation with technology, the department has focused on computerising courts. The position was zero in 2017, but 531 courts had been computerised by 2025. The list includes courts of the Deputy Director of Chakbandi, the Settlement Officer of Chakbandi, the Chakbandi Officer and 180 Assistant Chakbandi Officer courts. The move is expected to make court work more systematic.
The department also reported that 1,302 villages were included in the chakbandi process under its expansion initiative during the last eight years. Departmental records list 2,468 villages in this category in 2017, while the 2025 figure stands at 1,302. These are shown as villages added to consolidation activities over the eight-year period.
