UP Politics: SP Veteran Accuses Imran Masood of Aiding BJP, Defends Alliance Record

Uttar Pradesh’s political atmosphere grew tense on July 13 after Congress MP Imran Masood publicly questioned the Samajwadi Party’s alliance stance. In a rapid rebuttal, senior SP figure Haji Fazlur Rahman labeled Masood’s narrative as a direct echo of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s agenda.

Masood argued that the Samajwadi Party often repeats the word “alliance” while the Congress maintains a separate identity, pointing to the 37 Lok Sabha seats the SP secured with Congress support in the previous election cycle. He maintained that the Congress does not require a “baaisakhi” to stay relevant.

Rahman dismissed the remarks, stating that Masood’s “blood is in the BJP’s hand,” suggesting the MP’s statements are designed to fracture the anti‑BJP front. He referenced the 2022 assembly polls where the Congress, contesting alone, managed just two seats and a three percent vote share, compared with the SP’s thirty‑four percent.

According to Rahman, the senior Congress leadership in the state is keen on an alliance, but leaders such as Masood are obstructing the process, inadvertently providing the BJP a strategic edge. He contrasted the BJP’s reliance on a Hindu‑Muslim binary with the Samajwadi Party’s commitment to inclusive politics that does not divide communities.

Concluding his remarks, Rahman called Masood’s allegations “unfounded,” asserting that any partnership between the SP and Congress would strengthen the opposition, not weaken it.
