Reforms in UP Police Recruitment Boost Transparency and Capacity
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlined sweeping changes in Uttar Pradesh police recruitment during a ceremony at Lok Bhawan. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board handed out appointment letters to 912 candidates for posts such as Police Sub‑Inspector (Confidential), Assistant Sub‑Inspector (Clerical) and Assistant Sub‑Inspector (Accounts).
The CM said that, after 2017, the state overhauled the entire hiring framework – advertisements, examinations, training and postings now follow a fully transparent protocol. Group ‘G’ and ‘H’ interview stages were eliminated to prevent discrimination, and a strict anti‑paper‑leak law now carries a life sentence and total asset seizure.
Police manpower has risen dramatically. Earlier, more than half of the required 4‑lakh‑strong force was vacant; today the force can train 60,000 recruits simultaneously and the number of women police personnel has grown from less than 10,000 to over 44,000, with a target of 50,000 by year‑end.
Infrastructure upgrades include the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh State Forensic Institute on 110 acres near the airport, forensic labs in every range, cyber police stations in each district, three (soon to be six) women PAC battalions and the formation of SSF and SDRF units. The CM stressed that modern equipment, better barracks and residential facilities are essential to match the upgraded skill set of the new force.
