Uttar Pradesh Laborer Killed in Gujarat Over Personal Dispute
Gujarat police have taken a brick kiln laborer into custody following the death of a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh. The victim, 40-year-old Pawan Kumar alias Commander, hailed from Kasganj and had been working at a kiln site alongside fellow laborers from his home state.
The tragedy occurred overnight on November 1 in the rural Dholka taluka area of Ahmedabad district. Witnesses and initial police inquiries indicate that Kumar and the accused, Bholeram Chauhan from Shahjahanpur, UP, stepped out around 9 PM to collect supplies. Their prolonged absence prompted a supervisor to search the surrounding area.
The supervisor tracked Chauhan near a drainage canal outside Mandanpura village. According to police statements, Chauhan revealed that a violent clash broke out after Kumar allegedly requested unnatural sexual contact. The disagreement escalated, leading Chauhan to use a belt to strangle Kumar.
Following the assault, the supervisor located the body near a field bund and escorted Chauhan back to the worksite. The kiln owner was informed, and authorities were promptly alerted. On November 2, the victim’s elder brother registered a murder complaint at the local police station, triggering an investigation under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
During preliminary hearings on November 3, Chauhan confessed to the act and was officially arrested by 5:30 PM. He is now being held in police custody as investigators complete paperwork for his remand. The body has been sent for autopsy at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, and the probe into the circumstances surrounding the death remains active.
