UP Government Extends Complimentary Bus Travel for Women Until Midnight Aug 29

Lucknow, August 23 – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed a high‑level meeting of transport officials, city‑development officers, police and traffic authorities to keep the public transport system secure and orderly during the upcoming Raksha Bandhan celebrations. The free‑travel window for women and one accompanying passenger on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation buses has been broadened to start at 6 a.m. on August 27 and run until the stroke of midnight on August 29. The plan anticipates a surge in inter‑district journeys on August 26, a holiday, and therefore adds extra bus services, alongside verified private autos, taxis and e‑rickshaws. Special traffic management measures will be pre‑planned for entry and exit points of major bus terminals, railway stations, markets and city gates. The administration will enforce strict penalties for over‑speeding, over‑charging, non‑use of helmets or seat belts, and unauthorised passenger carriage in cargo vehicles. All coordinated actions aim to deliver a safe, technology‑enabled transport experience for families celebrating the festival.
