Unpaved Footpaths and Central Verge Gaps Highlighted in Noida Audit

During the Operation Clean Air field audit, CQM inspectors flagged a recurring shortfall concerning auxiliary road elements. While the primary road surfaces received attention, eight of the examined roads—six managed by GNIDA and two by the Noida Authority—lacked proper footpath paving along their edges. Moreover, five routes (three GNIDA and two Noida Authority) displayed central verges that remained unpaved.

The central verge, the median strip separating opposing traffic lanes, plays a pivotal role in trapping dust that would otherwise be re‑entrained by passing vehicles. Its absence not only reduces the effectiveness of dust suppression measures but also poses safety concerns for motorists.

CQM emphasized that a holistic approach—encompassing full‑width paving, side‑walk construction, and median development—is essential for lasting reduction of particulate matter. The commission has asked the responsible agencies to prioritize the completion of these auxiliary works to align with the broader clean‑air objectives.

Stakeholders were reminded that neglecting these components could undermine the overall impact of road‑based dust control strategies, potentially leading to higher concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 in surrounding neighborhoods.
