Union Minister Urges Action on Jail Drug Trafficking Allegations

Former Union minister Harshimrat Kaur Badal used her X account on October 14 to demand swift action from the Punjab government after a report alleged that Google Pay is being used to purchase narcotics inside Ludhiana prison. The document points to a coordinated effort among jail staff, security guards and inmates to facilitate drug smuggling.

Kaur called for the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that the administration’s failure to curb the drug menace has turned the state into a law‑and‑order nightmare. She accused the government of protecting drug traffickers, allowing the illicit trade to expand unchecked.

According to Kaur, the prison environment has become a fortified base for drug operations, with collusion between officials and prisoners. She also warned that the mafia’s boldness has escalated to the point where police sub‑inspectors are being targeted for murder.

The minister criticized AAP leaders, including national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, for not addressing the crisis, suggesting that daily press conferences are being used to divert attention rather than provide solutions.

She concluded by highlighting the anguish of Punjab’s mothers who lose their sons to addiction, urging the state to take responsibility and implement concrete measures to dismantle the drug network.
