Understanding the Rituals of Vishwakarma Puja and Its Blessings

Vishwakarma Puja, celebrated on September 17, 2026, is a day when artisans, engineers and laborers pause to honor the divine creator of all tools and structures. The ceremony is rooted in the belief that Vishwakarma forged the golden Lanka, the celestial Indrapuri and the famous city of Dwarka, and even built the mythic Pushpaka Vimana.

Because of these legends, the deity is associated with architecture, metallurgy, carpentry and all technical crafts. On this day, workplaces—from large factories to small repair shops—clean every piece of equipment, from heavy machinery to handheld tools, as a sign of reverence. The cleaned items are placed before a picture or statue of Vishwakarma and offered turmeric, kumkum, sandalwood paste and flowers.

The ritual begins after a ritual bath and an offering to Surya, the Sun God. The chant “Om Vishwakarmane Namah” is recited while a ghee lamp is lit. Aarti follows, and devotees share fruit and sweets as "bhog". It is believed that the puja removes obstacles, ensures the smooth functioning of tools, and bestows material prosperity on the participants.
