Madhya Pradesh’s spiritual capital, Ujjain, took a major stride towards Simhastha 2028 readiness as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav performed the bhoomi pujan for the massive Hariyakhedi Water Augmentation Project worth Rs 1133.67 crore.
The ceremony, held under the auspices of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation, marks a cornerstone in the state’s preparations for the once-in-12-years Kumbh Mela. With lakhs of sadhus and devotees set to converge on the banks of the sacred Kshipra River, authorities are prioritizing water security alongside other infrastructure upgrades.
Key features of the project include 17 state-of-the-art overhead reservoirs boasting capacities from 600 KL to 3000 KL. A comprehensive 708 km pipeline network will be installed, with 534 km dedicated to advanced distribution systems, ensuring equitable and pressure-regulated supply to households and public facilities.
Beyond water works, Ujjain is witnessing a construction boom. Encroached areas near Mahakaleshwar Temple have been reclaimed, new roadways are emerging, and ghats are being revitalized for safe bathing rituals. The CM highlighted how these initiatives blend devotion with development.
‘Simhastha is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of our living traditions. This water project will quench the thirst of Ujjain’s people and pilgrims alike,’ Yadav remarked, underscoring the project’s role in sustainable growth.
Local leaders praised the swift execution pace, noting that timely completion will set a benchmark for event-based urban planning in India. As Madhya Pradesh invests heavily in its religious hubs, Ujjain emerges as a model of proactive governance ahead of the 2028 spectacle.
