Ujjain Witnesses Grand Ash Aarti as Thousands Gather at Mahakaleshwar
Ujjain, 14 October – A grand ash aarti was performed at the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas, attracting thousands of devotees early Wednesday. The ritual commenced with a ceremonial bath of the deity using water and Panchamrit, followed by an elaborate decoration of the idol with fragrant blossoms and sandalwood, creating a mesmerizing divine visage. The Great Nirvani Akhada then presented holy ash, a practice believed to enable the deity to appear in a visible, corporeal form.
The temple grounds reverberated with the chant “Jai Shri Mahakal,” as worshippers expressed deep devotion. In parallel, preparations are underway for a massive Navratri event on 17 October, which will include a Mahayagya and a coordinated Kanya Puja across 151 locations, honoring more than 31,000 girls. Approximately 5,000 volunteers are engaged in the arrangements, and the gathering is expected to draw around 150,000 onlookers.
