Udaipur District Magistrate Ordered to Submit Detailed Report on School Accident
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has formally notified the District Magistrate of Udaipur to provide an exhaustive report on the October 6 roof plaster collapse at a primary school in Narada village. The directive, issued under the commission’s powers, demands a submission within two weeks, outlining the incident’s factual matrix, the medical status of the three injured pupils, and steps taken to prevent recurrence.
According to eyewitness accounts, the classroom was occupied by 32 children when the plaster from the ceiling fell without warning. The three children, between seven and eight years old, sustained head injuries and were later admitted to the Bhilwara Government Hospital for treatment.
The NHRC has warned that, if the media’s narrative proves correct, the incident could be deemed a serious infringement of the right to education and safety for minors. The commission’s involvement highlights growing concerns over the condition of aging government school infrastructure across Rajasthan.
Following the collapse, education authorities ordered the closure of the school building, which dates back to 2001 and reportedly suffers from severe structural decay. Temporary classes are now being conducted near a local religious site. School headmaster Lal Singh Shaktawat affirmed that the administration had previously reported the building’s poor condition to the education department, but corrective action was not undertaken.
