Two taxis seized with 778 quarters of contraband alcohol

In a swift operation on the morning of 21 August 2026, Delhi police halted two taxis that had entered the city from Haryana carrying a massive quantity of illegal liquor. The tip‑off received at 06:30 hrs detailed the vehicle numbers and expected arrival near Seelampur Metro Station. Acting on the intelligence, the AATS team led by Head Constable Deepak, Head Constable Anuj and Constable Mukesh intercepted the taxis at 07:30 hrs.

A thorough search yielded 399 quarters of alcohol from one taxi and 379 quarters from the other, amounting to 778 quarters in total. Three individuals – Vinayt Chauhan, 35; Akash Sharma, 25; and Vishal, 23 – were placed under arrest. One additional person managed to escape. All three arrested suspects have no criminal history. The incident has been logged as FIR 288/26 under Section 33 of the Delhi Customs Act, and the police have launched a deeper inquiry into the broader smuggling network.
