Two Specialized Battalions and Anti‑Narcotics Force to Strengthen Assam Security

During a press briefing in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the creation of two specialized police battalions. One battalion will focus on disaster response, while the other will be responsible for the security of Oil India and ONGC assets across the state.

The CM also revealed that an Anti‑Narcotics Task Force will be set up within a month. The new unit will tackle drug trafficking, pursue stricter penalties for dealers, and seize assets linked to narcotics trade. It will also investigate economic crimes.

Both initiatives are part of a broader effort to accelerate promotions – about 5,000 police personnel are expected to receive upward moves – and to modernize policing through upgraded facilities such as the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy.
