Two Publications Accused of Glorifying Terrorists in JK School Libraries
The controversy over two books circulating in Jammu and Kashmir school libraries has escalated into a criminal inquiry. Law enforcement agencies have seized both hard‑copy and digital material from the publishing houses Oberoi Book Service and Anurag Publications after alleging that the books extol separatist leaders and terrorist operatives.
The FIR, recorded under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, has prompted a coordinated raid across the publishers’ offices. Evidence collected includes distribution logs showing 123 copies of “Personalities and Legends of Jammu‑Kashmir” in Jammu, Ramban and Udhampur, and 128 copies of “Personalities of Jammu and Kashmir” in Jammu and Baramulla.
The education department’s oversight committee and supervising officers are accused of gross negligence in approving the material, leading to the immediate suspension of eight senior officials.
The investigation team, led by IAS officer Ashwani Kumar with JKAS officer Rohit Sharma as presenting officer, has been instructed to file a comprehensive report within thirty days. The government stresses that any content that threatens public peace will face strict legal action.
