Two more Tamil Nadu universities set to lose acting heads, raising total to 17

The situation is set to worsen next month when the terms of the acting heads at Alagappa University in Karaikudi and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli expire. Once these tenures end, the number of institutions operating without a permanent vice‑chancellor will climb to seventeen.

Education experts warn that the expanding leadership gap could further delay critical policy reforms, affect student admissions and stall long‑standing research collaborations.
