Two lakh state jobs slated in next five years, CM emphasizes merit

Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an ambitious recruitment plan that aims to fill approximately 200,000 government posts in the next five years. The blueprint includes around 22,000 vacancies for laboratory technicians, GNM nurses and ANM nurses.

During the rollout of the Neijut Moina and Neijut Babu scheme forms, Sarma stressed that merit and specialised expertise will be the decisive factors for these opportunities. He warned that students should not rely merely on a traditional degree; instead, they must acquire a complementary skill set to stay relevant in an increasingly competitive employment landscape.

The CM also expressed concern over the declining interest in science education among Assamese youth, labeling it a threat to the state’s long‑term developmental goals. He called for a revival of enthusiasm for scientific subjects to ensure a skilled workforce.

Sarma reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparent, merit‑based hiring, noting that 1.60  lakh positions have already been filled without any corruption. He urged students to focus on academic rigor and skill acquisition as the cornerstone of personal and societal progress.
