Only two days remain before Uttar Pradesh enforces a stringent new regulation that will compel all sweet vendors to display a "use‑by" date on every item they sell. The rule, effective 15 October 2026, covers both pre‑packed confections and open‑display sweets. Each sweet’s shelf‑life must be determined by the producer based on composition, cooking process and storage conditions, and the date must be shown prominently at the point of sale. Violations could attract fines and possible closure of premises.
