TS Sandhu Oversees Accelerated Sewer Desilting Across Six Delhi Zones
Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu has taken an active role in supervising the Delhi Development Authority’s accelerated desiltation of the city’s storm‑water drains. The campaign, which began months before the monsoon, has cleared more than 57,000 metric tons of silt from drainage channels in the east, south, north, Narela, Rohini and Dwarka areas.
Compared with the previous year’s effort of roughly 33,380 tons, the current cleanup shows a 70 percent increase, reflecting improved capacity and preparedness. Sandhu’s hands‑on approach includes regular briefings with agency heads, on‑site inspections and direct oversight of the cleaning schedule.
The DDA reports that the extensive desiltation will raise the streams’ water‑carrying capacity, speed up runoff, and lower the probability of flood‑related disruptions once the monsoon peaks.
