Tripathi Calls for Respecting Student Rights Amid NIT Protests
During a media interaction, Tripathi addressed the recent unrest at the National Institute of Technology (NIT). He pointed out that the Supreme Court has clearly stated that innocent students should not face criminal proceedings for peaceful protest.
The spokesperson said the central government stands with that judgment and will work to ensure that any First Information Report (FIR) filed against a student without a criminal background be withdrawn. He warned that premature legal action could jeopardise a young person’s education and future prospects.
Tripathi also emphasized that law‑enforcement agencies must distinguish between genuine protesters and fringe elements that attempt to incite violence. He called for swift action against those who disrupt public order while safeguarding the rights of law‑abiding students.
