Tributes Flow as Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s Birth Anniversary Observed

New Delhi, August 31 – While traditionally marking the death anniversary, many political leaders also used the occasion to reflect on the birth‑anniversary spirit of former President Pranab Mukherjee, a recipient of India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari posted a short note on X, offering a modest greeting in memory of the late President.

Manohar Lal, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, highlighted Mukherjee’s reputation for purity, transparency and straightforwardness in public service, calling his career a model for future generations.

Pankaj Chaudhary, Union minister and state BJP chief, stressed Mukherjee’s lifelong devotion to national interest, visionary leadership and his priceless contribution to democratic governance.

Rajasthan’s chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma posted a "cooties salute" acknowledging the former president’s dedication to nation‑service, extensive political experience and unwavering faith in Indian democracy.

Chief ministers from Delhi, Uttarakhand and Haryana also posted messages praising Mukherjee’s influence on policy‑making, democratic values and his lasting legacy.

Mukherjee took oath as India’s 13th President on 25 July 2012 and served until 25 July 2017. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha five times from 1969 and to the Lok Sabha twice after 2004. A senior Congress figure, he served on the party’s Executive Committee for 23 years. He passed away on 31 August 2020.
