Calls for Transparent Inquiry Into Gulzar Singh Death Amid Drug Allegations

Chandigarh, September 14 — While the BJP readies its "Nasha Mukt Punjab" tour across the state, Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has shifted focus to a recent tragedy that has shocked Punjab. The death of Gulzar Singh, a youth who publicly complained about the easy availability of narcotics before allegedly ingesting poison, has sparked demands for a rigorous, unbiased investigation.

Bajwa argued that both the state and central governments are avoiding responsibility by turning the drug crisis into a political showdown. He criticised CM Bhagwant Mann for blaming cross‑border smuggling via the Mundra port, stating that the Union government shares accountability for overseeing borders and ports that facilitate international drug trafficking.

The congress leader asked hard questions: why does synthetic drug "chitta" remain accessible despite claimed successes in arrests and FIRs? How many major traffickers have faced punishment? What is the total value of seized narcotics? Are any political or financial networks protecting the drug mafia being dismantled?

Referring to the Gulzar Singh case, Bajwa demanded that the allegations of intimidation and the circumstances of his death be examined impartially. He also condemned the police assault on activist Mohanjit Singh, who had raised the issue of drug abuse, warning that such actions threaten the safety of citizens speaking out.

"This is not a fight against drugs; it is a narrative battle between political parties," Bajwa said, urging authorities to shift from blame‑shifting to delivering tangible results for Punjab’s plagued youth.
