Jammu and Kashmir was plunged into mourning after a severe road mishap in Doda district resulted in the martyrdom of 10 Indian Army personnel. The accident occurred when an army convoy vehicle skidded off the Bhaderwah-Chamba highway at Khanni Top, tumbling into a steep gorge on Thursday.
Out of the 17 soldiers aboard, 10 succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining seven sustained serious wounds. Quick-thinking rescuers mobilized helicopters to evacuate the casualties, ensuring they received immediate attention at advanced medical facilities.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led the tributes, describing the event as a ‘deeply saddening loss.’ He directed senior officials to oversee the best possible treatment for the survivors and vowed that the soldiers’ legacy of courage would endure.
In a poignant social media message, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conveyed his condolences, highlighting the efficiency of relief efforts. ‘Our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones,’ he posted. Mehbooba Mufti, in a similar vein, shared her sorrow, urging prayers for the recovery of those hurt.
