Traditional Attire Required as Baba Mahakal Receives Panchamrit Ablution and New Crown

Ujjain's Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple observed strict dress codes for the ash aarti of Baba Mahakal on August 13. Men were required to wear dhoti‑sola and women traditional sarees, honoring the customs of the shrine.

The ceremony opened with a ceremonial bell, followed by the offering of Hari Om water. Priests then performed a panchamrit ablution—mixing milk, yogurt, ghee, honey and fruit juice—on the idol, which had been embellished with bhang. A radiant moon was placed on the deity's head, and a garland spelling Lord Ram's name adorned his throat.

A new, ornate crown was later placed, and the procession continued with drums, nagadas and conch blasts. The ash aarti concluded amidst chants of "Jai Shri Mahakal," while a sea of devotees witnessed the ritual, having queued since the previous evening.
