TMC Spokesperson Responds to CID Summons and Calls for Uniform Civil Code

Riju Dutta addressed two separate issues in a recent interview. First, he confirmed his appearance before the CID following a notice from the CBI in the DJ case linked to Abhishek Banerjee. Dutta said he provided all necessary information and awaited any further directions from investigators.

Second, Dutta defended the push for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Referring to a recent cabinet meeting chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, he argued that a single civil law benefits the nation’s unity. He dismissed opposition claims that the UCC is a political tool, stating that personal religious freedom is already guaranteed by the Constitution and that a common legal framework would simply streamline governance.
