The All India Trinamool Congress has fractured into two distinct camps following its heavy loss in the state elections. One camp, led by former chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, has moved its operations to a temporary location in Kalighat. The rival camp, under Ritabrata Banerjee, secured a long‑term lease for the party's traditional headquarters in the Metropolitan building.
The split has sparked a series of negotiations over the use of the party's assets. The rebel group’s lease, extending to 2027, is expected to enable it to conduct regular organisational activities, including daily legislative briefings and strategic planning sessions.
