Tiwari Appeals for Additional Funds for Classrooms, Toilets, Smart Boards and Uniforms

Bihar’s Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari met Union Education Minister Prahlad Joshi in Delhi on September 16, presenting a detailed funding agenda for the state’s schools.

Beyond the request for construction of 1,520 new school buildings, Tiwari highlighted immediate needs: 227 supplementary classrooms, repair of substandard toilets in 525 schools, and the installation of smart boards and interactive learning panels in 836 institutions.

He also asked for a financial boost to cover band‑uniform expenses, ensuring that students have the necessary attire for extracurricular activities.

The minister’s broader plan included a rapid approval of alternative locations for science labs in 1,275 schools, a disbursement of ₹8.29 crore for a facial‑recognition attendance system, and a spill‑over grant of ₹50.80 crore to upgrade six district centres of excellence.

Joshi responded with a commitment to act swiftly on each demand, marking a constructive start to their collaboration.
