Thousands of Tribal Performers Lead Cultural Procession in Jharkhand Capital

A massive cultural parade featuring approximately ten thousand tribal artists set off from the Birsa Munda Memorial Park on Sunday, officially launching Ranchi's two‑day Tribal Festival. The procession, escorted by Minister Chandra Linda, traced a route through Karama Toli Chowk and the SSP housing complex before arriving at Morhabadi, where a festive atmosphere enveloped the city.

The participants represented a wide spectrum of Jharkhand's indigenous groups, including Santhal, Munda, Ho, Oraon, Kharia and Kharsawan. Dressed in authentic costumes and jewellery, they wielded traditional musical tools such as the mandaar, nagada, dhol and bamboo flute, creating a symphony that resonated through the streets.

Six tableaux were displayed, each portraying key moments from Birsa Munda’s life and the everyday customs of tribal societies. The crowd’s enthusiastic response turned the procession into a living showcase of Jharkhand’s cultural mosaic.

Minister Linda remarked that such gatherings are essential for transmitting tribal values to the younger generation, calling the preservation of Birsa Munda’s legacy a shared duty. She praised the diversity of tribal traditions as a formidable strength that enriches the state’s cultural fabric.

The event was attended by the principal secretary of the tribal welfare department, the tribal welfare commissioner, senior communication officials, and the project director of ITDA Ranchi, all of whom underscored the importance of promoting indigenous arts on a statewide platform.
