Thousands Join RJD Lok Sabha March, Barricades Broken, Police Detain Leaders

On August 19, a large RJD rally converged on Patna's Lok Sabha area following a call by opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav. The procession, which began at JP Golambar, included activists from many districts of Bihar. Demonstrators raised banners demanding action on alleged examination irregularities, persistent unemployment and the recent police crackdown on student gatherings. Near the Dakbangla intersection, the crowd ripped down a police‑built barricade and attempted to move forward. In response, law enforcement used a water cannon at the Income Tax junction, creating a chaotic scene. The escalation resulted in the arrest of Tejashwi Yadav along with several party insiders. Yadav, before being taken into custody, reiterated his resolve to keep pressing the government until the issues raised by students are resolved.
