Tejashwi Yadav Demands Justice for Jail Victim, Labels Bihar a Growing Police State

Patna – On Thursday, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Bihar NDA coalition, alleging that the state is spiralling into a "police state" as crime rates climb and police conduct comes under fire. He asserted that his party will not stand by while citizens are denied justice.

Yadav travelled to Madhubani jail on 10 August to see the relatives of 19‑year‑old Roshan Yadav, whose lifeless body was found hanging inside a cell. Although officials labelled the death a suicide, Yadav pointed to several fresh wounds on the body, suggesting possible foul play.

He explained that Roshan had been detained on 27 May for a firearms offence, later released, and subsequently rearrested. Yadav accused the police of brutal beatings, prolonged detention in inhumane conditions, and even administering electric shocks. He urged a fair, independent probe and promised that the RJD will take every possible step to bring the perpetrators to account.

“The narrative of a police‑run Bihar is deeply troubling,” the opposition leader said, noting a pattern of criminal incidents across districts and the government's apparent inability to restore order. He urged the chief minister to act decisively, arrest the accused without delay, impose stringent punishments, and guarantee the safety of victim families.

Yadav concluded by reaffirming the RJD’s commitment to street‑level mobilisations on public safety, insisting that the government cannot evade its duty to protect citizens and uphold justice.
